L'=C3=A9tude observe par donn=C3=A9es satellites allant de 1992 =C3=A0 2017 une augmentation des =C3=A9missions lumineuses sur la plan=C3=A8te de 49%. Mais estime l'augmentation r=C3=A9elle au sol autour 270% et pouvant aller jusqu'=C3=A0 400% dans certaines r=C3=A9gions. Elle attribue notamment cela =C3=A0 un effet rebond du passage aux LED : autrement dit, les potentielles =C3=A9conomies d'=C3=A9nergies permises par cette nouvelle technologie ont =C3=A9t=C3=A9 employ=C3=A9es pour =C3=A9clairer davantage la nuit. Les auteurs pensent que cela a exacerb=C3=A9 l'impact sur les papillons de nuits et le d=C3=A9clin de populations d'insectes en g=C3=A9n=C3=A9ral.
